Amat-Amat
Hellooooooo everyone! This week has been never ending. Don't get me wrong, its been a good week but its been crazy long. The title of this email translates to gradually in English and its how everything has been working for me. I'm adjusting, learning and tanning amat-amat.
You know the drill- its in sections
EAT MORE RICE
- this week has been a lot of member and interested person meals. Every meal here has rice *shocker*. I can't eat a ton of rice for several reasons that shall remain unnamed in order to avoid sensorship of this email (poop reasons). So, I always try to take as little rice as I think I can get away with and then, depending of the dish and the likelyhood that I can eat it, I spread my rice around and try and eat. Every meal people are shocked that I didn't take more rice and are very willing to tell me that I need to eat more. So amat-amat I'm learning to eat more rice.
THE FIELD IS WHITE
- Let me tell ya, the Philippines is READY for the gospel. This week was my first time street contacting and asides from a few devoted members of other faiths, the people hear are eager to hear any message about Jesus Christ. I wish I could write every miracle I've seen this week but this email would be 5 miles long. So I'll just write a few
- RONICA- Ronica is the only non-member in her family and has been learning from the missionaries for a few weeks now. This week we were teaching her the plan of salvation. When I say we I of course mean Sister Francisquete taught while I gave the few short sentances I know and tried to listen the whole time. As we were teaching Sister Francisquete asked Ronica a question and after she responded Sister Francisquete was so excited. I still had no idea what was happening but she turned to me and told me that Ronica had said "I am ready". She had prayed and decided to be baptized! We saw her at church yesterday so October 15th she will be baptized!!! I didn't even do anything but I'm just grateful I got to be there!
-JARED- Jared is a 12 year old boy who's father is an inactive member. His father asked the missionaries to teach Jared but we've had a hard time finding a time to meet. Jared's father has some struggles with word of wisdom that make it hard for him to attend church. This week when we visited their home Jared was home and his father also joined our lesson! Jared listened very well and then they came to church the next day! Also while we were at their house Jared's father climbed up a tree and got us coconuts and guava. He staight up cut the coconut with a machete and then gave us spoons to eat it. Yah it was pretty sick. But even sicker than machetes was them coming to church as a family AND staying for second hour.
- these are just two of the miracles I've seen this week. The people of the Philippines are so ready and willing to accept the gospel!
ETHER 12
- Ether 12 has been my dawg lately. Idk if I'm allowed to say that but its true. Please please please go study it. The whole chapter. It talks about how having faith is having hope that, through God, things will get better. It also talks about how miracles only happen AFTER the trial of our faith and that faith is believing in things that are hoped for but not seen. Then Moroni spits some bars about all the miracles that have been rought by faith. Prisons fall, kingdoms are converted, miracle after miracle. Then he goes on to write 2 of my favorite verses. 26 and 27. His grace and atonement are sufficient to make weak things strong. Through faith in Christ and His atonement our weakest things can become strong. Later Moroni writes that these are the things Christ told him face-to-face. Christ chose to tell a prophet of God face to face that through the atonement and His grace we can do all things @Philippians 4:13. Moroni closes the chapter by asking the reader to "seek this Jesus". I'm closing this email with the same invitation. Please, seek this Jesus. It is by and through Him only that we can be saved. Not only saved but also grow and change. Only through Christ can we make effective, positive and lasting spiritual growth and covenants. Please seek this Jesus. Your burdens can be made light. You don't have to go through trials alone. Please seek this Jesus.
I love this gospel. I love Jesus. I love my family and I love the people of Iloilo.
Love
