Well, I Made Some Rocks
Hellooooooo it's Sister Larson again. Surprise.
It's been a solid week. I had a cold which shouldn't have been that much of a big deal but it had me feeling like one of those frogs that came out in the rain but then got hit by a motorcycle and then dried up in the sun. You know that feeling?
I made a collage to better illustrate.
But just like these dead frogs still made this beautiful collage my week was still beautiful and full of miracles. (Picture 1)
EXCHANGES
A highlight of this week was our exchanges with the Kalibo 2nd sisters! I got to work with Sister Camain who is a girlboss. We met lots of cool people and got some new mosquito bites. (Pictures 2-3)
NUMANCIA PEOPLE AND PLACES
Numancia never ceases to amaze me. One moment it's dusty beer bottles and factories and the next it's the most stunning sunset over a flooded rice field. But more than the scenery is the people. With that in mind, here are some of the beautiful children of God we taught this week (and some of the views as well ;). (Pictures 4-11)
WELL, I MADE THESE ROCKS
I've been reading this week in Ether for my personal study and once again I'm reminded just how real the Book of Mormon is. When you really read it from cover to cover you can tell there are several different authors with different writing styles. You can tell that parts were inserted later. And more than anything you can tell that it is “the most correct book”.
Ok but back to Ether. The people in the book of Ether left Jerusalem way back at the time of the Tower of Babel to come to the Americas. The brother of Jared was their prophet and leader at the time. The brother of Jared was commanded to build some kinda wack, dish-like, boats, and he did so. Later he realized “shoot there's no light in there”. So he inquired of the Lord what they should do to have light on the inside. I love the Lord's response in Ether 2:23 “What will ye that I should do…”. So God gave it back to him. He made it his decision. The brother of Jared didn't request LEDs or ask for magic. Instead he did what he could- He did his best… He made some rocks. Once he had made his little rocks he, likely sheepishly, presented them to God. “Well, I made these rocks.” Even though his offering was small and simple, his faith was far greater. He asked the Lord to just touch the rocks and they would glow. The Lord accepted his offering and plan. He touched the rocks and the brother of Jared's faith was so strong he was able to see Christ's finger first and then talk one on one with Christ. What started with some rocks led to likely one of the most intimate interactions with deity ever recorded. In Ether 3 Christ introduces himself to Ether and ministers to him. At that point Ether “had faith no longer; for he knew, nothing doubting”(Ether 3:19).
Our faith may not be brother of Jared sized yet but it doesn't have to be. All the Lord asks of us is our heartfelt all. Our personal best. Even when our personal best may be a few little rocks. Even when our best seems so far from sufficient, Christ will make miracles and we too can see the hand of the Lord in our life. What started as stones of hope can become perfect knowledge, nothing doubting. (Picture 12)
I love this gospel. My faith is still growing. I love my family and I know the Book of Mormon is true.
