Satan's Pizza Oven

Image
Hi everyone! This was a tougher week. Still good but definitely harder. It was harder for a few reasons. It was literally so freaking hot. It was 38 C for several days in a row which not only is uncomfortable to work in but people also are not outside so it's hard to find people. It feels like Satan's pizza oven overhere. It was exam week for the highschoolers around here and most of our progressing interested people are teens so it was difficult to find a time to meet with them. We did a lot of walking to appointments just to find no one home. It is also election week for local government this week so everyone was busy and attending campaigns and debates. When we don't have appointments it's really hard for me not to get homesick so this week was hard that way too. Also I just know everyone at home is wearing sweaters and eating pumpkin flavored stuff. It's fine, I'm just sweating and eating lots of chicken. But even though this week was hard it was still so so...

Meet Ronica And Irish

Weekly email Hellooooooo! This week we had zone conferences, exchanges and stake conference. So we were super busy but it wasn't really in an exciting way…. Lots of time spent traveling. So it was a long week but still good.  Also I heard that my last email was hard to read because of the format for some people so I'll try it this way one more time and if it goes wierd again I'll go back to the old way. Here are some nice little sections for you JEEPNEY Ok so, what is a Jeepney? For those of you non-filipinos heres a little explanaton. Jeepneys are my main transportation and I take at least two a day. Its like if a new york taxi, a party limo and a free range chicken had a baby. So the front is like a normal car and then the back is like the covered bed of a truck with benches all along the sides and open air windows. The back is open so you just hop in from the back. The main carriage can usually fit about 20 people and then two people can sit up front with the driver, 2-6...

I Don't Wear The Same Thing Everyday, I Promise.

Helloooo everyone! This week has definitely been one to remember. It's been long and tiring but not draining or dragging. As always, lots of miracles here in Oton.  Guess what? This email is in sections baby. (see pictures) GUIMBAL We had transfers again this week but this time they decided that it wasn't the greatest idea for Sister Fifita and I to be alone so we got Sister Salacup too! Maybe because we kept telling people how it was a miracle that we survived on our one. That might be why. Anyway we visited Guimal which is part of Sister Fifita's area. Its nickname is the "town of the rising sun" so everythihg is yellow. In Gimbal we taught John Rhey again (he always talks about wanting to marry a white woman). Anway we were teaching him about temples and such and I put on chapstick and he goes " Wow sister Larson, you're lips look so kissable right now". See if I even use chapstick again. I said " John Rhey I don't know if I can come back...

Forever Exchanges

Hi everyone! It's been another beautiful and crazy week. This week the mission had a conference for young missionary leaders from Wednesday to Thursday and then Friday we had exchanges. This means that my companion from Wednesday to Friday was Sister Fifita because both of our trainers are Sister Training leaders. She is only a month older than me in the mission and neither of us know the language. She is Tongan and from New Zealand so she has a super sick accent. Anyway, I thought everyone was watching when they saw one foreigner but they REALLY stare when they see two. But we have a lot in common so exchanges, while crazy are always fun. This time I had to lead the area for two days and then we went to a new area in Sister Fifita's area. Pretty much we just prayed a lot and had to just laugh every time something wack happened  Sister Francisquete showed me a cool way to make my emails look cooler so the photos will be with their appropriate sections this week! Also ignore the...

Amat-Amat

Hellooooooo everyone! This week has been never ending. Don't get me wrong, its been a good week but its been crazy long. The title of this email translates to gradually in English and its how everything has been working for me. I'm adjusting, learning and tanning amat-amat.  You know the drill- its in sections EAT MORE RICE - this week has been a lot of member and interested person meals. Every meal here has rice *shocker*. I can't eat a ton of rice for several reasons that shall remain unnamed in order to avoid sensorship of this email (poop reasons). So, I always try to take as little rice as I think I can get away with and then, depending of the dish and the likelyhood that I can eat it, I spread my rice around and try and eat. Every meal people are shocked that I didn't take more rice and are very willing to tell me that I need to eat more. So amat-amat I'm learning to eat more rice. THE FIELD IS WHITE - Let me tell ya, the Philippines is READY for the gospel. T...
